What to watch for on Thursday, July 1

The 6th World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference (WPPAC) 2021 continues with a deeper delve into the conference theme of Connected, informed, and united to improve multidisciplinary care for people with psoriasis & psoriatic arthritis. Day 2 takes advantage of the innovative on-line format this year to bring together experts located around the world for live, interactive discussions. Day 2 also features two more keynote lectures, oral abstracts, all-new topics in the Complementary Program, and a special joint session by conference organizers IFPA and the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA).

What to watch on Day 2: Thursday, July 1

Interactive discussion session

10:00-10:50 CEST
This session’s topic is the role of doctor/patient communication in improving outcomes and wellbeing. It includes lectures from patient expert Silvia Fernandez Barrio, Professor Katy Leung, and Dr. Christian Greis. In an innovative online format featuring live participation from speakers located around the world, these lectures are followed by a live interactive discussion.

Keynote lectures

11:00-11:45 CEST
Professor Christine Bundy from the UK speaks and answers questions about self-responsibility and self-management – encouraging lasting behaviour change in patients with psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis.

12:00-12:45 CEST
Professor Dirk Elewaut from Belgium speaks and answers questions on the hot topic of the general impact of the microbiome in chronic, inflammatory disease.

Joint IFPA/GRAPPA session on palmoplantar pustulosis

14:00-15:45 CEST
This collaborative session features patient testimonials followed by lectures from GRAPPA on the particular features, challenges, and recent research on palmoplantar pustulosis.

Complementary Program

The Complementary Program is primarily directed at allied health professionals, non-specialists, patient leaders, and industry representatives. It is broken up into two sessions on Day 2, both on the theme of the day: Lifestyle, dealing with daily life problems, latest research and mental health.

13:00-14:00 CEST
Session 3 of the Complementary Program features lectures on psoriatic arthritis for the dermatologist from Dr. Alan Menter; alcohol and food systems – the latest in the prevention policy landscape for the psoriasis community from NCD Alliance’s Lucy Westerman; lifestyle intervention programs from Professor Luigi Naldi; and the relevance of the gut microbiome to psoriasis from Professor Ignacio Dei-Cas. The session ends with a live Q&A.

16:00-17:00 CEST
Session 4 of the Complementary Program kicks off with 2 talks with a focus on mental health: “Psychotherapy and psoriasis” from Professor Anthony Bewley and “Making use of placebo effects in clinical care for the well-being of psoriasis patients: role of cognitive behavioral therapy” from Professor Andrea Evers Leiden. These are followed by an interactive workshop on support group sessions and functioning led by advocates Kathleen Gallant, Silvia Fernandez Barrio, and Paul Mendoza. Speakers and panelists are also be available for a live Q&A.

Changes in Patient Perceptions of Psoriatic Arthritis From 2012 to 2020: Results From the UPLIFT Survey presented by Dr. Alexis Ogdie

Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis in Transgender Patients on Hormone Therapy: A Retrospective Comparative Cohort Study presented by Julia Gao
