Research has shown that Japanese patients with psoriasis have different genetic markers compared to Western patients. For example, certain alleles like HLA-Cw6, which is strongly associated with psoriasis in European populations, are less common in Japanese patients. Instead, other alleles such as HLA-Cw1 and HLA-Cw14 are more frequently observed .
Psoriasis is common among middle-aged men and affect about 1 in every 300 people in Japan. Patients with psoriasis are 65% male.
