9 apr 2013 – People with psoriasis run increased risk of high blood pressure

A number of studies show that psoriasis is associated with greater prevalence of hypertension (high blood pressure). This in turn is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This is why IFPA calls for healthcare professionals to regularly scan for hypertension in patients with psoriasis.

Lars Ettarp, President of IFPA, explains why: “Studies indicate that treating psoriasis early and efficiently lowers the risk for comorbid conditions like high blood pressure. This needs to be taken into account when developing a treatment plan for individuals with psoriasis.”
